Comment:
Yeast from a faecal specimen - TEM (cf. TEM of Blastocytis hominis). This yeast cell is 5 microns. On wet mounts they can be mistaken for protozoan cysts. In Trichrome stains under LM, they appear uniformly stained red to green. If there are budding yeast cells and/or pseudohyphae present in a fresh or freshly fixed sample, they should be reported as they may indicate the presence of pathogenic yeasts, particularly important in immuno-suppressed patients.
